Hotel Sea Rock, Kovalam - Hospitality At Its Best
This is a hotel from where you have a lot to see if you look out : fishing boats returning to the beach with the contents of their catch at night , holiday makers already on the beach rushing to see the variety and size of the fish which had the misfortune to be trapped in the fishermen’s nets.
There are organised speedboats for paid trips as well as balloons that gently move around and over the sea close to the shore tied to the boats below .
In short Sea Rock is well situated providing fantastic views and its staff are always ready and willing to help the guests .

My Dream Resort That Fits All Seasons
A holiday in Kerala is not complete without atleast a short stay at one of its beach resorts in a place like Kovalam - the Bournemouth of South Asia.
We have been lucky that We manage to do that on all our annual visits to Kerala . Last week we stayed at the Getaway Beach Resort where we had a spacious room with a balcony and ample view of the vast blue Sea. with all the comforts.
The five days we spent there was not just a relaxing and enjoyable but an infinitely , so to say , rejuvenating experience for me and my wife . Besides the well trained , committed and ever caring staff gave us a home - from -home feeling.
The added advantage of this resort is that it is strategically located with easy access to all parts of the vast and pleasant Kovalam and its surroundings .

Visit Kerala, experience the Natural Beauty
Properties of KTDC are set in the heart and soul of the destinations, be it a backwater , a hill station, a jungle or beach that are ideal for the relaxation of body , mind and soul. WWW.KTDC. COM
Kerala Tourism Development Corporation takes the leading role to ensure that tourists from abroad get the best service wherever they go by setting standards for comfort as well as safety. KTDC properties, as mentioned above, are spread all over the state of Kerala. I had the opportunity to stay at almost all of them over the years and have shared my experiences : Tea County in Munnar , Lake Palace in Thekkady , Waterscapes in Kumarakam ,Samudra Kovalam , Chaithram and Muscat in Trivandrum etc among others. During the COVID Pandemic period the number of visitors from overseas were significantly reduced .
However KTDC properties have been going through innovative and naturally qualitative developments. Recently I spent almost a week at the newly renovated and relaunched KTDC Grand Chaithram
To my pleasant surprise I found the service and comforts far better without deviating from its objective of Providing a budget hotel for travellers within the heart of the city and close to the main Railway Station. I found the staff and management caring , friendly and very committed.

Remembering Pandit Nehru- His vision for a world without wars
The first half of the twentieth century witnessed a clear failure to achieve peaceful national co-existence, which had been set as an ideal by the Western community of nations. Two disastrous wars took place. Even the Western system of peaceful co-existence that was founded on the concept of balance of power and which drove nations to alliances to preserve peace inspired by the fear of one country about its neighbour’s military capacity broke down. As an alternative, there came the vision of another system of peaceful co-existence, founded on confidence in and respect for national interests and existence based on the position that diversity in national outlook or ideology did not preclude the possibility of cooperation for certain objectives. that transcend national boundaries.
Nehru, through whose learned lips India spoke, felt he had a mission to fulfill. He preached his theory of peaceful co-existence with its implicit moral undertones to fill the moral vacuum that seemed to exist in the Western approach to international! relations, especially in the era that followed the Second World War. His decision to keep India in the Commonwealth seemed to be indicative of that approach. He saw the United Nations. as one avenue for the pursuit of that goal and the Commonwealth of Nations as another. The Indian precedent that turned the Commonwealth into an association where representatives of different civilizations met and discussed their problems with confidence and respect established a new pattern of action and outlook for millions in Asia and Africa. They gradually began. to share that same sense of mission in the world together with India. As an antithesis to an imperialism that was “exclusive” and that believed in physical force this was a “new, all-embracing” liberal internationalism that stood for moral force.

Siege of Gaza - what next?
Hamas's sudden and unannounced brutal attack on Israel and Israel's equally brutal and well-coordinated retaliatory actions, including the ongoing siege of Gaza, call for a radical new approach to resolving the perpetual hostility and tension between the two nations of Palestine and Israel that has persisted since they came into existence in 1948.
The decision to create the two nations was taken by the UN in the aftermath of the Second World War. It was imposed on the Palestinian Arabs, ignoring their protest.
Initially, the British Government's commitment and support for establishing a "national home" for the Jewish people in Palestine was announced through the so-called Balfour Declaration of 1917. It was explicitly approved by the League of Nations through its mandate to Britain to administer the area and, in the process, put into effect the Balfour Declaration, "National Home for the Jewish People", alongside a home for the Palestinian Arabs who formed the vast majority of the local population.
Any new initiative must be preceded by a serious and significant de-escalation process, which the United Nations Secretary-General should ideally guide.
Declaration of Ceasefire
There are compelling humanitarian and legal reasons for Hamas to release all the hostages they took and for Israel to completely lift the Siege of Gaza. The fact that most of the permanent members of the UN Security Council have instantly and unconditionally declared their support for Israel and Israel's retaliatory actions, to a large extent, undermines the potential role of the UN in resolving the crisis.
Naturally, the Arab nations are instinctively drawn closer to the people of Gaza, who are under siege and deprived of everything. By now, European nations, including Italy, Germany and France, must possibly be regretting the speed with which they jumped on the US bandwagon without putting any conditions on their support.
The European Union could step in to support the UN's mediation

Celebrating India-Bhavan at its best
I felt privileged to be invited to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan while it celebrated the 76th Anniversary of the Independence of India. It obviously was a very well organised event under the direction of Dr Nanda Kumar , a distinguished Sanskrit scholar who recently received Kings Award for his years of dedicated and successful service at the Bhavan , the largest Centre for Indian classical arts in the UK.
The evening program consisted of brief addresses from the Chairman as well as well as the Special guests including HE Vikram Doraiswami , the Indian High Commissioner . Hon. Lord Loomba in his speech briefly touched on the Independence Movement led by Mahatma Gandhiji, Pundit Nehru and Sardar Patel etc giving them all credit for their able and purposeful leadership and sacrifices which brought about Indian independence 76 years ago
HE Vikram Doraiswami , the High Commissioner strongly and convincingly highlighted how India managed to survive as a democracy not just in name only but a functioning and vibrant one that guarantees Freedom of Speech, Independence of the Judiciary , free and fair elections etc . The High Commissioner complemented Bhavan for its inclusive approach vis-a-vis diverse and varied linguistic and musical traditions of India .
Bhavan ( continued) The speaking session was followed by a music and dance session which consisted of a few colourful and stunning musical and dance performances by well trained and experienced groups of youngsters . The musical session had such a nostalgic impact on those of us of Indian background .

Indian tourism is undergoing an enviable boom, with European and American tourists flocking to the ancient land to view some of the remains of its enduring historical treasures, its marvellous scenery and devour an imaginative array of national and regional curries. The health benefits of Ayurvedic medicine, delivered by some highly accomplished professionals in some of the acclaimed clinics and resorts are also a major attraction. Indeed, this vast country with over a billion people and its friendly and warm welcome for foreigners and the Indian Diaspora has so many other attractions waiting to enrich the traveller's experiences. The adventurous will be generously rewarded in their search for many elusive gems.
Coorg In Karnataka
Coorg is one of the smallest districts of Karnataka state. Yet its people have played an extraordinary role in the military history of the country, and have produced some brilliant warriors. India still reveres the memory of its army's two outstanding Commanders-in-Chief : General Cariappa and General Thimayya. The latter stood up to the Chinese invaders of Indian soil but was handicapped by inadequate equipment and his men's unfamiliarity with harsh and unfriendly terrain. Nevertheless he and his men acquitted themselves most honorably. The visionary Nehru in his ceaseless struggle against racism and racists made a most sagacious choice, when after General Cariappa 's retirement the tough old warrior was appointed as Commissioner to Australia. Cariappa managed to expose the hypocrisy and idiocy of white supremacy in a country that had once belonged to the indigenous Australians, .. Cariappa was declared persona non grata for his scathing attack on Australian racism and expelled. But he made his point and it was not long after that that Australia abandoned its vile all- white policy.

UK India Leaders Conference 2023 held in London
I found the well participated UK India Leaders Conference held on 1 st March at the U.K
Parliament organised by Europe India Centre for Business and Industry (EICBI) immensely
interesting ,relevant ,timely and necessary in the context of strengthening business and
commercial relations between India and Britain.
The Conference provided a focused forum for entrepreneurs from both Britain and India to get a
deeper understanding of the present market situation along with practical knowledge on how to do business in each others' country .Such summits are all the more important now that the UK is making special efforts to engage with countries like India which are outside Europe in the post-Brexit era offering trade agreements as well as other mutually beneficial dealings.Britain and India ,the two key Commonwealth countries must find it easier to
build on the existing and well structured relations.
The opening address by Sujith Nair ,the Chair Person setting the scene clarifying the value and
purpose of the august gathering was followed by contributions from invited guest speakers and the event concluded with inputs from the floor
